Description

[DES] ANSI X3.106, "American National Standard for Information Systems-Data Link Encryption," American National Standards Institute, 1983.

This spec doesn't actually specify DES, just how to use it for data link encryption. The DES spec would be X3.92, but that's almost impossible to obtain. Suggested replacement:

[DES] National Institute of Standards and Technology, "Data Encryption Standard (DES)", FIPS PUB 46-3, October 1999.

Likewise for 3DES:

[3DES] W. Tuchman, "Hellman Presents No Shortcut Solutions To DES," IEEE Spectrum, v. 16, n. 7, July 1979, pp40-41.

This is almost impossible to find, and it's not clear if the paper even provides a full specification of 3DES that would be interoperable with other specs. Suggested replacement:

[3DES] National Institute of Standards and Tecnology, "Recommendation for the Triple Data Encryption Algorithm (TDEA) Block Cipher", NIST Special Publication 800-67, May 2004.
