Description

Attached is my review of -05. Much better, though it seems a couple of my
prior comments were not addressed, and one was addressed with an incorrect
statement (as John Levine also correctly caught). In almost all cases, I've provided
suggested text in the attached doc with an explanation in a comment.

The remaining open items that I find a bit sticky are regarding two points
of guidance that appear in the last section, but aren't motivated by any
text that is currently in the document. Specifically:

[DT10]: the guidance section seems to imply a belief that PTR records are

not a good match for putting in the DNS. Do we really believe that?
I didn't see anything in the doc that would argue so, until we get to the
recommendations, so I'm not sure I agree with "good match" point 5.

[DT12]: the guidance section states that applications not in general not

be aware of the points of administrative delegation in the DNS. I agree
with that, but there's no rationale for that statement that I can find
anywhere in the document. If we believe it, then we should have a
supporting rationale in the document prior to the guidance section.
Otherwise we should omit that phrase.

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed

These fixes were implemented in -06. The guidance bullets are certainly the most difficult part of the document to write, and it's not clear that they'll ever be perfect, but they seem pretty decent at this point.
