#25 closed defect (fixed)

Congestion-volume measured by drops "or" ECN marks

Reported by: acooper@… Owned by: mattmathis@…
Priority: minor Milestone:
Component: abstract-mech Version:
Severity: - Keywords:

Sean Turner cleared this DISCUSS, but there may still be an issue to resolve:

Interesting that congestion-volume can be measured in one of two ways.
If I'm the user in s3.2 (or in the last para of s3.3) will I know which
measurement technique was used? Is it up to the operator to decide which
one to use?

Note that this is what we currently say at the top of 2.2, and it may require clarification:

The metric that ConEx? exposes is congestion-volume: the volume of

bytes dropped or ECN-marked in a given period of time.

This was a comment on concepts-uses, but I think the answer actually belongs in abstract-mech.

Abstract Mech defines volume in a completely general way (need to say volume of what, e.g. traffic volume), and sites concepts-uses for a precise definition of congestion-volume.
